Virginia Lee (Ginny) Hanna Brassel of Annapolis, Maryland passed away surrounded by her family on May 14, 2015 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Mabel Marguerite Brown Hanna and Henry H. Hanna on July 24, 1950 in Salisbury, Maryland, the shore always remained a special place in her heart. Ginny was found every summer rocking on the porch of her beloved Ocean City home, “The Virginia Lee”. Family and friends looked forward to seeing her smiling face and hearing her infectious laugh as they walked up and down the boardwalk. People from every walk of life could be found enjoying the ocean breezes from the Virginia Lee’s porch. Ginny earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia. She met the love of her life, Jon Brassel on spring break in Ft. Lauderdale in 1968 and they married December 18, 1971. Whether it was at one of her sons’ schools, Indian Creek School, Severn School or Gilman school, or elsewhere in the community, her talents for service were renowned. Ginny loved children and she considered it a privilege whenever she was able to touch their lives. She and Jon “adopted” a kindergarten class to provide essential learning tools to be used in the classroom. For her birthday each year, she requested gifts be made to the students in lieu of a gift for herself. Ginny was a member of the Junior League of Annapolis for many years and also served on the board of the SPCA. Ginny had an unparalleled love of people and she lived each day with the goal to do something special for someone else.
