Lila Mae Gray Wendell, 96, of Chance, MD, went to be with her Lord on August 26, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born in Washington state. Together with her late husband, Lester E. Wendell, she helped raise three daughters, Helen Diane Wendell Skewes (who predeceased her), Barbara Linn Wendell Atkinson and Ruth Anne Wendell Hill. She will be missed by all who knew her as “Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend”. While living in Salisbury, she attended Fellowship Baptist Church and then following her move to Chance, she placed her church membership in First Baptist Church of Princess Anne. Lila will be remembered for her loving heart and beautiful smile. For those who knew her testimony of faith, she’ll be remembered most for the day she answered the knock on her heart’s door and at the age of 89, and with understanding of her spiritual need, she confessed her sins, repented, and received Jesus Christ into her heart as her Lord and Savior. At the age of 90 she was scripturally baptized by immersion to further demonstrate her loving obedience to her Lord. Her first Birthday in 1918, being born into the Gray family, gave her life on earth, while her “second” birthday in 2007, being born again into God’s family, gave her eternal life in Heaven. All services will be private. In Lila’s memory, contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 448, Princess Anne, MD, 21853. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Please visit www.hollowayfh.com to send condolences to the family.
