Ruby Frances Carmean Layfield 90 of Salisbury died Friday, November 29, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Ruby heard Jesus her Savior, call her name and He lead her safely to her Heavenly Home. Her sunset on earth was her sunrise in Heaven. Born near Snow Hill on August 22, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Carmean and Mary Alice Ruark Carmean.
Mrs. Layfield was a wonderful and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and dear friend to many.
She accepted Christ as her Savior in 1934 and later became a member of Parkway Church of God and then Crossroads Church of God.
On April 9, 1939, Ruby married the love of her life, Walton H. Layfield and celebrated 74 ½ years of God’s blessings.
Ruby is survived by her loving husband, Walton; her daughter, Phyllis A. Vickers and her husband, Gary P. Vickers; granddaughter, Stephanie A. McClellan and her husband, John M. McClellan; two great-grandchildren, Cody M. McClellan and Mallory A. McClellan all of Salisbury; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Ruby retired at age 61, after 21 years of service as manager of McCrory’s Department Store and Restaurant.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Carmean and Maurice Carmen and a baby sister, Mildred Carmean.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
