Olga MacMillan

Olga Fernandez MacMillan, 93, of Salisbury, died on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born on January 29, 1920 in Havana, Cuba she was the daughter of the late Dolores Fernandez Casas and Manuel Fernandez Frederick.

Mrs. MacMillan was a long time member of St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Olga attended UMES and Salisbury State College where she received her BA in Spanish and French in 1984. She was inducted into the Omicron IOTA of Sigma Delta Phi (the Spanish Honors Society). She was instrumental in starting the first special education classes in Worcester County in the early 1950’s. She taught Spanish classes at Washington High School. Also she taught English as a second language in Somerset and Sussex Counties and was a Spanish translator at PRMC. She went on to receive the Delaware Governors’ Award for Outstanding Service in 1991. Her memberships included: The Ward Foundation, The Junior Board and the Republican Womens’ Club. Along with her husband they owned and operated, MacMillan Brothers. She also owned several other businesses including, Triangle Restaurant in Berlin, a children’s clothing store in Shanty Town, West Ocean City and MacMillan Gallery.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. MacMillan, Sr., two daughters, Alice and Janet MacMillan, a sister, Isabel Rudolph, and a daughter-in-law, Beverly MacMillan.

Olga is survived by three children, Dolores Martin and her husband Douglas of Bel Air, MD, Alfred R. MacMillan, Jr. and his wife Adriana of Salisbury and Cheryl Simpson and her husband Robert of Salisbury, eleven grandchildren, Kim, Daniel, Matthew, Kelli, Lauren, Fedra, Alfred, Arthur, Angelina, Erin and David, eight great-grandchildren, Isabel, Bobby, Kayleigh, Milo, Elsa, Thatcher, Vance and Noel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Monday, November 25th at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. Burial will be in Wicomico Memorial Park.
