Claude Tyler Giles, 96, died on May 8, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, Claude J. and Mabel T. Giles, his wife Xenia N. Giles, and a sister, Bette Zoller. Claude spent most of his first 89 years in Anne Arundel County, with the exception of five years in the Army Air Corp during World War II. His service took him to Kentucky, Texas, Alabama, and abroad to India and China where he was a supply officer supporting troops in the Pacific. Claude owned and operated a successful chain of grocery stores for forty years. He and his wife enjoyed countless hours on the Chesapeake Bay, entertaining friends and family aboard their boats. The Bay was dear to Claude as his family traces back to Wicomico and Somerset counties on the Eastern Shore since mid-1640s. At age 89, Claude relocated to Lakeside Assisted Living in Salisbury where he made many friends and enjoyed the company and care provided by the staff. Claude will be remembered for his devotion to family, love of the Bay, passion for music, interest in genealogy, creative solutions with duct-tape, and his often off-beat sense of humor. Survivors include three children and their spouses- son Geoffrey and Heike Giles of Williamsburg, VA, daughter Jennifer and Fred Hawkins of Salisbury, and son Christopher and Erica Giles of Dover, DE; six grandchildren and their families- Heather, Chris and Grace Davis of Salisbury, Amanda, Brook and Joshua Pollack of Fruitland, Jennifer, Joseph, Avery and Luke McClay of Richmond, VA, Michael and Katelyn Giles of Millersville, Alex Giles of Richmond and Tyler Giles of Williamsburg. Claude is also survived by a devoted sister Nancy Germanos and many loving and attentive nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Claude particularly loved favored veterans’ causes. The family will privately remember and celebrate a life well lived. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Please visit www.hollowayfh.com to express condolences to the family.
