Darwin Leon Hickman, 81, of Salisbury, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake surrounded by his family. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Charles Wilson Hickman and Marie Hickman. Darwin was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Salisbury Jaycee’s and Wicomico Hotel-Motel Association. He worked as a farmer on the property which is now Holiday Harbor in Bishopville, MD for 18 years. In 1960, his family moved to Salisbury where he became the manager of Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge, working with his wife for 25 years. In 1985, they became part owner and operator of Bali-Hi RV Park in Bishopville, MD for 19 years retiring in 2004. Darwin enjoyed fishing, drawing, dancing, spending time with his family and telling stories. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Ann Rounds Hickman; 3 grandchildren, Kelli (Mark) Lynch, Matt MacMillan and Lauren MacMillan, all of Salisbury; and 3 great grandchildren, Vance Lynch, Thatcher Lynch and Noel MacMillan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his only daughter, Beverly Hickman MacMillan, whom he adored, but sadly passed away from cancer in 1997. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Donald, Louis and Wilson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1401 Camden Avenue in Salisbury with Rev. William Sterling officiating. A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1:00 pm in the Mackey Parlor. Entombment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Contributions may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society and or Coastal Hospice at the Ocean.
