Clara May Monigle Truitt, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at her home Saturday, March 21, 2015. She was born in Philadelphia in 1928, the daughter of Charlotte and Arthur Patrick Monigle. Clara May graduated from Ravenhill Academy and from Drexel University. In June 1951, she married Alfred T. Truitt, Jr. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and began her life in Salisbury. She was a high School home economics teacher in Baltimore and Wicomico Counties. Clara May was a former member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club, where she enjoyed years as an avid golf and tennis player. One of her proudest accomplishments was the year she won the Ladies 9- Hole group tournament. She was an enthusiastic member of the Salisbury Ski Club. She was a dedicated member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and their St. Mary Martha Guild where she supported both the Joseph House and the Carriage House. An important aspect of her life was her association with PRMC Junior Board, receiving recognition as a “Life-Time” volunteer. Clara May was also a lifetime member of the Town and Country Garden Club, excelling at her favorite hobby of flower arrangements- proud of the ribbons and of the awards she received over the years. Another pastime was her completion of needlepoint projects as a member of the Embroiders’ Guild. Clara May is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Judge Alfred T. Truitt, Jr; her 5 adoring children and their spouses: Christine Bozick (Peter Bozick, Jr.) Alfred T. Truitt, III “Bruzz” (Debbie Truitt), Cathleen Campbell (John Campbell) Margaret Engler (Steve Engler), and Michael Truitt (Beth Evans Truitt). Also surviving are her sisters, Gail Moore and Charlotte Wieland, and one brother, George L. Ralph, Jr. She leaves behind her proud legacy of 18 grandchildren: Shannon Monacelli, Lindley Bounds, Sara Bounds, Christopher Truitt, Connor Truitt, Lindley Campbell, Clara Campbell, Brian Engler, Caitlin Engler, Matthew Engler, Libby Truitt, Bennett Truitt, Peter Bozick, Megan Leslie, Stephanie Price, Julia Wycall and Sarah Sullivan, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted stepfather, George L. Ralph; brother, Arthur Monigle and a granddaughter, Hannah Lindley Campbell. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will take place at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:30 am. Interment will be private at Parsons Cemetery.
