Nancy Leonard

Nancy A. Leonard Pocomoke City- Nancy A. Leonard, 84, formerly of New Church, VA, passed away peacefully at her Pocomoke home on February 7, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born August 23, 1930 in Bayone, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Wilber Hall Tyler and Mattie Jane Tyler. At an early age Mrs. Leonard moved with her family to Craigsville, VA where she lived until she graduated from Craigsville High School. Following graduation, she moved to Baltimore and worked as a telephone operator. She met and married Arnold L. Leonard in 1951 and moved to New Church in 1963. Mrs. Leonard was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A homemaker until the opening of Ames Department store in Pocomoke City, she worked there from the opening until the closing of the store as Department Manager of the housewares department. She enjoyed crafts, music, camping, baseball, NASCAR, and square dancing, where she won a contest to name the newly organized square dancing club, that came to be known as “the Cypress Squares”. She also had a compassion for animals. Mrs. Leonard is survived by her three children, Dr. Arnold L. Leonard, Jr. and his wife Maria of South Riding, VA, Susan Leonard of Pocomoke City, and Dawn Leonard of Berlin; three very special grandchildren, Sarah A. Brannon and her husband Davis of Atlanta, GA, Nick Leonard of Ocean City, and Christopher Buhrt of Berlin and one great-granddaughter Leighton “Lettie: Brannon of Atlanta, GA. One of nine children, she is also survived by five sisters, Joyce Hassett of Churchville, VA, Sharon Marcantoni of Red Lion, PA, Kay Jackson of Herndon, VA, Patsy Rowe of Staunton, VA and Judy Everest of Racine, VA; a special brother and sister in law Lewis and Audrey Leonard of New Church, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years Arnold L. Leonard, Sr.; one brother Sonny Tyler and two sisters Peggy Greenberg and Bette Williams. Our family would like to extend a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Teresa Wimbrow and the Coastal Hospice team of Janyce Adams, Amy Farozic, Courtney Layton and Bob Miller for the love and kindness they shared with our mother and our family. A funeral service, will be held at Noon, Saturday, February 14, at the Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service and on Friday, February 13th from 6-8PM. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
