Sylvia W. Layfield, 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. She was born in Salisbury to Elsie Hastings Webster and Harry Webster. Her mother re-married when Sylvia was very young to Adolph Beye who raised her as a daughter. In high school, Sylvia met and later married Charles R. (Richard) Layfield, son of the late Samuel R. and Ethel Layfield, whom she considered the love of her life as he did her. They were married for 63 years, a milestone they were equally proud of. Most of her life was spent being a stay-at-home mother taking care of their two daughters and then later, their grandchildren. When her daughters were in school, she worked at Joyce’s Beauty Shop for a number of years. Sylvia is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Charles Richard Layfield and their two daughters, Vicki L. Bozman (Bruce) and Terri L. Hussey and companion (James “Tucker” Washburn). Also, surviving her are four grandchildren, Jason Hussey (Amy), Jill Bounds (Colby), Jenna Foxwell (Chris), Christopher Bozman and friend, (Angela Wagner). Sylvia is also survived by two great grandchildren, Gavin Hussey and Brooke Bounds. Two more great granddaughters are expected in February and in June who will each be a big sister to Brooke and Gavin, respectively. Sylvia is also survived by a brother, James Webster, sisters-in-law, Delsie Evans, Marie Bounds, Jane Layfield and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and stepfather, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Webster, who was a twin brother to her surviving brother, James. Two sisters-in-law, Virginia Webster and Shirley Webster preceded her in death as well as three brothers-in-law, Tom Evans, Preston Bounds and Samuel R. Layfield. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Rev. Howard Travers will officiate. Contributions may be made in her memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
