James Rodney Graves, Jr., 89 of Salisbury and Dunnellon, FL, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Rodney and Helen Thomas Graves. Mr. Graves was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II aboard the USS Wintle De 25. He attended the Baltimore Watch Repair School. Moving to Salisbury in 1950, he worked at Castleburg Jewelry for over 38 years. He continued as a watch maker/clock maker until retirement. Memberships include charter member of Somers Cove Marine Yacht Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, Wicomico Yacht Club and charter member of Horological Association of Maryland and member of AWCI. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea C. Burke Graves, whom he married November 14, 2002; his children: J. Rodney Graves III and wife, Gayle of Williamsburg, VA, Robert Ray Graves and wife, Jane of Salisbury, Marjorie Ann Graves of Salisbury and Susan Graves Phillips of Ashland, VA; step-daughter, Margaret O. Simpson and husband, Tom of Greenbackville, VA; grandchildren: Pamela Graves, Robert Ray Graves, Jr, Zachery Ryan Graves, Jacob Tyler Graves, Jessica Taylor, Eric Olson, Shannon White, Steve White, Daniel, Timothy, Elizabeth and Mark Phillips; step-grandchildren: Katie Clogg and Thomas Simpson; great-granddaughters, Kirra Graves and Irie Stefanik; step-great-grandchildren, Karly Lucas and Bentley Simpson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Graves who died in 1999 and two sisters, Louise Frye and Charlotte Carpenter. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:00 am at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Bud Reick will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or to your favorite charity.
