Frances A. Plain Frances A. Plain, 79, of Pocomoke City and formerly of Portland, ME, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hartley Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. Born July 20, 1934, in Portland, ME, she was a daughter of the late William Dorr Smith and the late Gladys Maude Barter Smith Dyer (Frank). A lifelong resident of Portland’s East End, Mrs. Plain was a devout Catholic Communicant, was employed for over 25 years at Portland High School, and enjoyed playing “Beano”. She is survived by two daughters, Debra Beaulieu of Westbrook, ME and Kathi French (Thomas) of Pocomoke City, MD; one brother, Albert C. Dyer of Portland, ME; one sister, Eleanor M. Landa of Tracy, CA; three granddaughters, Lyndsay Moodispaw (Paul), Courtney Damon-Maloney (James) and Emily French Walters (Ben); two great grandchildren, Maddison French and Edward James Walters and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Franklin Lee Smith, a brother, William Dorr Smith, Jr., and a sister Shirley Jeanette Calder. A graveside service will be held at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland, ME at a later date. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Portland Press Herald Toy Fund in the spirit of Bruce Roberts, P.O. Box 7310, Portland, ME 04112, an organization to which Mrs. Plain devoted 34 years of her life to as a volunteer.
