Donald Dwight Murphy, Sr., 86, of Ocean Pines, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Ottumwa, Iowa, he was the son of the late Thomas Clarence Murphy and Mildred Lucile Hudgens Murphy. Don retired in 1990 as a shop foreman for Chesapeake-Dolphin Sheet Metal. He was a WWII US Marine Corps veteran and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 100 . He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Ann Murphy Bitner and her husband, Steve of Sunset Beach, NC; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and many friends and neighbors in Ocean Pines. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Rosalie O’Dea Murphy; and 2 children, Donald Dwight Murphy, Jr. and Patricia Gayle Conner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 5:00 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation 30 minutes prior. Officiating will be Rev. E. Wayne Holland. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Boys Club of America.
