MarySue Wharton Carey, 67, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at her Pocomoke City home in the company of her family. Born Mary Susan Wharton on April 23, 1948 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mildred Wharton and quickly chose to be known as “MarySue”. Mrs Carey was a graduate of Crisfield High School and the University of Maryland, College Park. She taught in Somerset County Schools for thirty three years and was honored as Somerset’s Teacher of the Year in 1994, which nearly caused her to faint. “MarySue” is survived by her husband of 43 years, Frederick Wilson “Rick” Carey, Jr.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy Carey; one daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Harold Miller; one aunt, June Wharton ;two sisters-in-law, Diane Burton and Sidney Evans and her husband, David; four grandchildren, Gabriel Miller, Mason Carey, Cole Porter and Alyssa Shannon and many much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service, where casual dress would be appropriate, will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Salem United Methodist Church, Second and Walnut Streets in Pocomoke City. In lieu of flowers, donations to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, Salem United Methodist.Church, P.O. Box 145, Pocomoke City, MD 21851 or your favorite charity will be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD.
