Dorothy Margaret Aponte, 84, of Snow Hill, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Paul Weissmantel and Florence Place Weissmantel. Dorothy was a member of Kenille’s Kupboard Pet Pantry & Rescue and Whatcoat United Methodist Church. She worked for Grumman Industries for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed rescuing animals, church sales and walking. She is survived by a son, William Frank Mele, Jr. & his wife, Debbie of Dover, DE; a daughter, Patricia Kerry Woods of Willards; a granddaughter, Jackie Lombardi and a grandson, Christopher Mele, both of NY; 2 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Thomas; a nephew, John Goldfarb; and her four-legged friends, “Samantha”, “Buddy”, “Rocky”, “Jazz” and “Charlie”. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Hilary Aponte; 2 sisters, Margaret Goldfarb and Florence Schmidt. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Snow Hill with Pastor Andy Frick officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00. She will be laid to rest at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
