Dorothy Rose Hurley Bloxom, 86, died on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Hartley Hall Nursing Home, where she had resided since 2011. Born July 17, 1929 in the small community of Cokesbury in Somerset County, she was the first of eight children of the late Clinton and Hattie Carter Hurley. Dorothy attended school for the first six years at the Cokesbury one room school. After that she rode the bus to Princess Anne, where she attended Washington High School. Following graduation in 1946, she worked at Montgomery Ward in Pocomoke City. There she met her future husband, Clairville W. “C.W.” Bloxom, Jr. They were married in 1949 and upon his death in 2005, had been married for 56 years. Dorothy spent most of her married life as a homemaker, but worked for a time at the J. J. Newberry store and then as a bookkeeper for Somers-Kirby Motor Company, both in Pocomoke City. She was a member of Lynnhaven Baptist Church, serving as a long time teacher to the little children. Her life revolved around her family and church, but in her spare time she enjoyed nothing more than flower gardening. She was a familiar sight in Pocomoke, down on her knees, digging the weeds out of her yard. She is survived by her three children, Clairville W. “Bill” Bloxom, III and his wife Dawn, Karen Gabriszeski and her husband Joe and Laura “Lolly” Beauchamp and her husband Michael; six grandchildren, Todd and Andrew Bloxom, Laura Gabriszeski, Christy (Beauchamp) Caison, Stacy (Beauchamp) Barnes and Stephen Beauchamp; five great grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlyn Johnson, Connall Caison and Paxton and Addison Barnes; her seven siblings, Lee, Kenneth, Richard, George and Daniel Hurley, Constance Bozman, and Patricia Doyle; their spouses and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Kerry Hinton, will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Lynnhaven Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be private in the John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Lynnhaven Baptist Church, P.O. Box 237, 1200 Lynnhaven Drive, Pocomoke City, MD 21851, to support their children’s programs.
